We're pretty sure now that we have a new Prime Minister. It's very nearly official, that Kevin07's Labor Party has won 83 seats (at present) in the Senate. I stood in line today (as every other Australian avoiding the massive fine for not doing so did) and voted. I did my part, so now excuse me while I get political for a bit.

Kevin Rudd is educated, but from a lower-class family and a younger, taller git than Howard was. Plus, he's been known to visit a strip club, which surprised the nation because we suddenly realized he might just be human and not just a robot. And he's promising a national high-speed broadband network, which is always of the good. Though I suspect he might just be trying to win more MySpace and Facebook friends. In addition to abolishing WorkChoices (the Howard-brainchild-workplace-agreements fiasco that could see me lose my award rate) Labor are also promising to ratify Kyoto, which Howard couldn't ever do because Bush not only doesn't want to, but doesn't know where it is. Rudd showed a real desire for reconciliation with the Indigenous people of this country, and (most importantly, in my opinion) say sorry.

All in all, we've still voted in a smug-looking nerdy glasses-wearing conservative whose main opponent is Peter Costello, which isn't really that much of a change.

But hey, here's hoping.

Also, I'm doing a 25 Days Of Christmas this year, during which I shall post a fic snippet/drabble/pointless-bit-of-pwp every day from Dec. 1st to 25th. *iz excited* I'm still a couple of days short in terms of ideas, so I'm taking requests and inspiration.
